Are you still running 5.1.5.7 ?
Power Music 5.1.5.7 has been an incredibly stable product and a number of users decided to stick with this version. It will continue to run but we would recommend you now upgrade to the latest version.
Installing the update (from 5.1.5.7):
Existing Product Keys will work and updated installations of Power Music Professional will pick up the previous registration.
There have been no changes to the database so existing databases will work with the new version.
- Make a backup of your Power Music database and songs. In Power Music: Go to File/Backup and save the backup on, for example a USB flash drive.
- Close Power Music Professional
- Make sure your PC is connected to the internet
- Go to powermusicsoftware.com/download
- Download and install the latest version of 5.2.2.x
- Open Power Music Professional and check all your songs are present - if not restore the backup.
Rolling back to previous version:
If for any reason you want to revert to the previous version (5.1.5.7) of Power Music Professional do as follows:
- Uninstall Power Music Professional 5.2.1.x. Go to Start/Settings/Apps
- Find Power Music Professional in the list of Apps, click on it and choose Uninstall
- Make sure your PC is connected to the internet
- Go to powermusicsoftware.com/download
- Find the link on this page to the previous version of Power Music Professional (5.1.5.7)
- Download and install. Note: This actually download 5.1.5.0 so update to 5.1.5.7 after the install.
Issues with text size or fuzzy music?
If you are using a Windows scaling of 125% to 200% you may find some of the text, for example in the All Songs list, is a little small and some of the icon may be too large. Also the music display can appear fuzzy.
There is an easy fix for this:
- Close Power Music
- Right click on the Power Music icon on the desktop
- Choose Properties
- Choose the Compatibility tab
- At the bottom select Change high DPI settings
- Tick the "Override high DPI scaling behavior" box (picture below)
- Click OK then OK again
- Restart Power Music
Notes:
- Power Music Professional - 5.1.5.7 - will be frozen and a link to download it will be available on the website for those who want to continue installing the old version. (Note: 5.1.5.0 will be downloaded and the update to 5.1.5.7 will be offered.) There will be no further updates to 5.1.5.7 from within Power Music. The red update notice will NOT appear on 5.1.5.7
- There will be a new Power Music Professional installer - 5.2.2.x for both the update and new installs.
- All settings (colours etc.) will be carried forward in this update.
- The update to 5.2.2.x from 5.1.5.7 must be done manually. The red update notice will NOT appear in 5.1.5.7.
- Subsequent updates to 5.2.2.x will show as the red update notices as normal.
- Warning – Annotations are NOT backward compatible. Annotations added or edited in 5.2.2.x will not appear if the song is transferred to the older 5.1.5.7 by Power Music Box or PMZip. Using a mixed environment of 5.1.5.7 and 5.2.2.x where music with annotations is shared is NOT recommended. (Annotations are forward compatible, so older annotations can also be viewed and edited in 5.2.2.x onwards).
- Users wanting to “roll back” to 5.1.5.7 can uninstall 5.2.2.x and then use the link on the website to download and install 5.1.5.7. No registration required and existing database will work. Any new annotations created using 5.2.2.x will not appear in 5.1.5.7.
- Windows 7 users may have to manually update the version of .NET Framework on their PC before installing the update, as Microsoft no longer do this automatically since support for Windows 7 stopped. Download .NET greater than 4.6 from here: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework
- Please feedback any issues with the update to support@powermusicsoftware.com
